intro
Founded by musicians in 2008 in the heart of Greenwich Village, Le Poisson Rouge (LPR) has showcased uniquely diverse and innovative performances since its inception. Known for its cutting-edge and eclectic programming, every genre finds a home at this underground live music sanctuary that is indeed “the most eclectically independent venue in NYC.”
history
Le Poisson Rouge (LPR) opened its doors in 2008 on the site of the historic Village Gate, a legendary venue that hosted iconic performances by artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Aretha Franklin, Duke Ellington, Patti Smith, and Velvet Underground. Owned by founder and musician David Handler, LPR was designed to be a multimedia art cabaret, committed to bridging genres and artistic disciplines. Besides their signature eclectic programming in Greenwich Village, the venue has transformed into a full-fledged events production company expanding into rooms across NYC. With a staunch commitment to innovation and risk infusing every aspect of the venue, LPR continues the legacy of its storied location, celebrating the vibrant and ever-evolving music scene of New York City.
