Picture yourself in Miami – it’s 80 degrees, the sun is setting, and you’re sipping a drink by the pool with your friends. This was the vibe Thursday night when Magic City Hippies brought the heat to Brooklyn Bowl for their 2025 tour to promote their new album release, Enemies. Hailing from Miami themselves, MCH is an indie, pop, funk, rap, and all around performing powerhouse comprised of Robby Hunter (guitar, vocals), Pat Howard (drums, percussion, vocals), John Coughlin (guitar, keyboards, vocals), Jake Pinto (guitar, keyboards, vocals), Guillermo Belisario (bass guitar), and Michael Fatum (Trumpet). With a sold out crowd chomping at the bit, these hippies were ready to bring the poolside pop bangers.

The ensemble began with two heaters from their new album, synthwave single “I Can’t Let You Go” and the moody, melodic, cinematic “Enemies.” With the fans warmed up, MCH decided to turn up the heat a notch as they covered “Pony” by Ginuwine in the middle of their track “Little Bit of Love.” We would be remiss if we didn’t mention the amazing stage presence of the entire group who was having way too much fun on stage. The energy was contagious through the room as a more feel good indie rock track played. “Lonely People” displayed the range of musical talent from the band with Guillermo rocking the 4 string bass, Jake riffing on guitar, and Micheal on the guiro. Is there anything these guys can’t do?!

The audacious affair continued to unfold with songs from their album Water Your Garden as John pulled out the acoustic guitar while Jake and Micheal harmonized for some dreamy piano and trumpet interplay during “Ghost on the Mend” that had the crowd swaying in unison with the melody. The indie beach daze aura was set as “Water Your Garden” put us into a relaxed, meditative state. Constant vibe changes during shows are the Magic City Hippies’ super power, enabling them to keep the crowd guessing and bring fresh energy to each number. They switched from sun-kissed serenading to raw rock, covering “Reptilia” by The Strokes and shifting the entire crowd to a sing along jam fest with high energy, driving rhythm, and distorted guitars.

The welcomed change up was met with an immediate temperature increase deeper into the set as Robby let his mojo shine with what sounded like a Daft Punk influenced “Track High Beams.” An absolute get down emerged as Robby stepped into the crowd for his rap verse and later, Micheal crowd surfed. The band ended their set with sustained high energy and an uplifting rendition of “Fanfare,” leaving the crowd yearning for more. After a short break, MCH came back on stage and ended the night hot and then cold with a scorching cover of “War Pigs” by Black Sabbath followed by a flawless and sexy original single “Hush.” Needless to say, Magic City Hippies are a force to be reckoned with, go check them out in a city near you!

Lucy Dunning

Lucy Dunning is a passionate force behind NYC’s independent music scene, balancing her roles as Partner & Director of Operations at The Wild Honey Pie and Assistant GM at Arlene’s Grocery. Originally from Washington D.C., Lucy was drawn to New York by the energy of Brooklyn’s local music community—and never looked back. Her love for live music runs deep, rooted in the thrill of raw performance and the power of spaces that champion emerging talent. Though she’s not onstage herself, Lucy’s impact is felt in every show she helps bring to life. Learn more about Lucy's musical inspiration and journey to NY's music scene.

What was the first concert you attended?
Backstreet Boys, Into the Millennium Tour was probably the first show specifically for me, but I’d gone with my mom to others before then!

Where are you from?
Washington D.C.

What do you do?
Partner & Director of Operations at The Wild Honey Pie creative agency, Assistant General Manager at Arlene’s Grocery.

Who/what do you draw inspiration from?
I think New York & its ability to endure and continue to be a haven for music and talent is very inspiring. The local scene in Brooklyn is what originally made me fall in love with NYC and inspired me to move here!

What does live music mean to you?
Live performances will always be my favorite way to experience music. In a world where everyone knows how to produce a perfectly edited video or track on their phone, seeing someone’s raw talent and stage presence is still unmatched for me. Going to venues that support artists and gives them a platform was what started my desire to work in the industry in the first place.

Do you play any instruments?
I don’t play, but I’m happily offstage or in the audience.
