Infused with a vintage romanticism, FINNEAS’ music strikes a timeless chord, and when his performance lit up the Brooklyn Paramount Theatre, the lavish, soaring interiors perfectly mirrored his atmospheric sound. the groovement caught him on his ongoing tour celebrating his latest album, For Cryin’ Out Loud!, released in late 2024.

While FINNEAS first captured public attention as an actor on shows like Glee or as Billie Eilish’s long-time collaborator, his solo work has firmly carved out its own niche. In a self-aware gesture—and perhaps a nod to those who still try to pigeonhole him—he opened the show with “Starfucker,” a ballad that softly lulls listeners with a gentle melody before shifting into a hard-hitting chorus. The lyrics wryly accuse a former partner of exploiting him for fame, adding a powerful emotional punch.

After a few opening tracks, the magic of the evening truly ignited. As the stage lit up in a dramatic wash of red during “Sweet Cherries,” the crowd’s energy shifted perceptibly. FINNEAS then launched into “What’s It Going To Take To Break Your Heart,” inviting the audience into an engaging call-and-response that we eagerly embraced. What followed was one of the most touching moments of the night. During “Angel,” an overwhelming number of fans held up signs that read: “Nights are better with you,” referencing the following lyrics:

“You're an angel

In disguise

You're an angel

In my eyes

I bought a house to live in

But you're the home I'm missin'

I know

Nothing good lasts forever

But nights with you are better”

In that shared moment, FINNEAS transformed the performance into something deeply personal, a celebration of both his journey as an artist and the heartfelt connections forged with his audience. We could see his genuine shock and appreciation, as he paused the song in disbelief, whispering ‘wow’ as he looked around. the groovement spoke to members of the audience, who said fans had passed out signs to each other before the show started, and they had been excitedly waiting for this moment.

While FINNEAS’ production and instrumentals have always been a defining strength, his stunning vocal range took center stage as he belted out “Till Forever Falls Apart,” a collaboration with artist Ashe. For those few minutes, the grandeur of the Brooklyn Paramount seemed to disappear, the ornate ceilings, the vastness of the space, all of it momentarily faded as FINNEAS’ voice became the sole focus. It seemed impossible to imagine how he could transition from that showcase to anything else.

Yet, in a move that caught the audience by surprise, he shifted into a cover of “Time of the Season” by The Zombies. The classic track, reimagined through his signature style, added a moment of unexpected nostalgia before he cut it short, leading into “Family Feud,” which stands as an ode to the unique bond between FINNEAS and his sister. Offering a rare glimpse behind the public curtain, the track captures the quiet, intimate moments that define their relationship.

Closing the night on a powerful note, FINNEAS delivered the titular track from his latest album, “For Cryin’ Out Loud!,” a performance that encapsulated everything fans cherish about his artistry. The song, melding intimate, heartfelt lyrics with his impeccable production, radiated a raw, exposed quality that symbolized what sets this new album apart from his previous work and collaborations. In that moment, we witnessed the artist behind the accolades, a soul still navigating life's complexities, drawing strength from the support of his family and those who know him best. It was a moving reminder that beneath the polished exterior lies a journey of self-discovery, forever unfolding, one he’s been kind enough to let us into with his most recent work
